Should I choose double-stick underlay?
Double-stick underlay is suitable for all flooring types (e.g. carpet, laminate, vinyl, or hardwood).
It boasts several benefits, including:
- quick and easy installation
- long-term durability
- excellent sound reduction
- improved thermal insulation
- underfoot comfort
- cost-effective
Whilst double-stick underlay will shape how well your floor looks, feels and wears – and can be used in the home – it’s best suited to contract installations, particularly areas that are prone to heavy and constant footfall or wheeled traffic.
As the underlay is glued to both the subfloor and your chosen flooring, it provides stability and prevents any unwanted movement over time. That means you needn’t worry about there being any bumps or ripples.
Designed by industry experts and made from crumb rubber, Duralay Durafit 650 is considered the best double-stick underlay in the world and is available to buy for a competitive price at British Flooring.

What is double-stick underlay used for?
Double-stick underlay is designed to keep underlay secure in commercial environments that receive heavy traffic.
Unlike other types of underlay, double-stick underlay is glued to the subfloor and your chosen flooring – be it carpet, laminate, hardwood or vinyl. This prevents unwanted movement over time and eliminates the occurrence of lumps and bumps in your flooring, meaning your new flooring will look and feel great for years to come.
Which double-stick underlay is best for my flooring?
The beauty of double-stick underlay is that it can be used with all flooring types, in the home and commercial environments. However, it works particularly well in areas where floors will be susceptible to a heavy and constant flow of foot (or wheeled) traffic.
Whilst we stock a variety of double-stick underlays, here at British Flooring, we are proud to supply the world-leading Duralay Durafit 650 for carpets. This crumb rubber double-stick carpet underlay is guaranteed to prolong the lifespan of your new carpet whilst improving its appearance and offering extra stability.

How much does double-stick underlay cost?
The price you will pay for double-stick underlay can vary from £56.22 to £114.90, depending on numerous factors – including the product brand, quality and the size of your floor.
As with most things, a higher-quality underlay is likely to cost you more but will last significantly longer, providing increased protection against wear and tear. Similarly, larger areas will require more double-stick underlay, adding to your overall costs.
Another factor to consider includes the cost of delivery. If you need double-stick underlay in a hurry, why not take advantage of our next-day delivery service? Admittedly, this will increase your costs, but you’ll be able to fit your new flooring sooner.
Our best advice is to explore the different options available for double-stick underlay and decide which is best for your flooring.
Is double-stick underlay easy to install?
Yes – installing double-stick underlay is super simple when you know how to do it.
As a general rule of thumb, the first step is to apply a tackifier to the subfloor using a roller, trowel or brush, then allow it to dry.
Once the tackifier has dried completely, lay out the underlay onto the subfloor (with the printed side facing upwards). The underlay seams need to be joined closely – ensuring no gaps.
Carpet adhesive needs to be applied to the backing of the underlay before the carpet can be laid on top, and smoothen any air bubbles or lumps with a glider.
